Karen and Raj sit at the table and eat dinner in a cozy restaurant.
Raj: I think it’s hypocritical.
Karen: What?
Raj: When a sexy woman complains about men objectifying them.
Karen: Do you have any idea how much crap we face every day to protect our skin.
Raj: No.
Karen: No?
Raj: No. I mean, I am not talking about all the women. I specifically said “sexy women.”
Karen:: Define “sexy women.”
Raj: A woman who only lives to be sexy. The demographic I talk about is whether very rich or very popular.
Karen: Why can’t they complain?
Raj: I didn’t say they can’t complain. They can complain about anything. But it’s hypocritical when these sexy women complain about men objectifying them.
Karen: Rich or poor. Popular or unpopular. What’s the difference it’s gonna make.
Raj: It makes a lot of difference.
Karen: Like?
Raj: Like an elite sexy woman complains, “oh, all men are perverts; all they only think about is sex and objectify us.” No, we don’t.
Karen: Yes. You do. Maybe not all of you but most of you do objectify these women.
Raj: Really? She wears this tinny piece and puts the pressure on men?
Karen: It’s her right. She can wear anything she wants.
Raj: I agree. She can wear anything she wants, and it’s my right to have an opinion about anything I find funny or silly.
Karen: It’s not the same thing.
Raj: See, now you are being a hypocrite.
Karen: I am not. You still didn’t give me a valid point on “why sexy women complain about men objectifying them is hypocritical.”
Raj: We used the word “hypocrisy” too much in the past two minutes.
Karen: You started it. Forget about the word. Give me a compelling argument.
Raj: If I fail. Is our second date at stake?
Karen: I don’t know. Time will tell.
Raj: Ah… a conflict!
Karen: Elaborate your hypocritical statement, you hypocrite.
Raj: All right, here is my explanation. Suppose there is a Saint who walks around and gives people life-changing answers. Wouldn’t people always expect an answer from this Saint?
Karen: They might.
Raj: I think it’s more of a “may” rather than “might.”
Karen:: I stick with “might.”
Raj: Fine. Why might they look for an answer from this Saint?
Karen: Because this Saint got the answers.
Raj: How do you know this Saint got the answers?
Karen: Because that’s how this Saint sells himself.
Raj: Exactly. The Saint portrays himself as he got all the answers in life, and as a fellow human being, you expect answers from him all the time. It’s stupid that people buy everything The Saint says to them. However, for some degree, it’s Saint’s fault to portray himself as this unimaginable figure. I will simplify; imagine if Batman says that “I don’t wear black or cover my face for you. This is for me; I am expressing myself.” The cops will be like, “oh yeah, sure, it’s your freedom, go on.” No. It’s not just about freedom.
Karen: Then?
Raj: Our clothing is a symbol. It’s not about fashion; it’s about sending a message. I think these elite women just use the “woman” license whenever they want to justify all their actions. They don’t dress sexy to inspire other women. They dress because they can. They dress because they got money. This “men objectify me because I dress sexy” is a shortcut to hide their economic privilege.
Karen doesn’t say anything. She waits.
Raj: So?
Raj: So?
Raj: Did I save my second date?
She thinks.
